DEXFILES: EXPERIENCE
Gerald "Dex" Poindexter is an award-winning journalist, public relations
and marketing professional. He has diverse experience and expertise
in key business and lifestyle sectors including hospitality/tourism,
technology, real estate development, government, popular culture
and arts and entertainment.
As a journalist, Dex has written extensively for mainstream and
trade publications, and publishing houses including The San Diego
Union-Tribune, the National Newspaper Publishers Association, Heritage
Media and The Microsoft Network, among others. His ongoing participation
as a member of the media gives him a current understanding of electronic
and print mediums, and informs his ability to develop targeted public
relations plans and strategies. Equally important, it provides active
editorial contacts among business and consumer media.
Dex is also a skilled Web content producer and corporate conceptualist.
He has been instrumental writing and producing content projects
for he Waitt Family Foundation (for Gateway Computers), Advanta
Finance, Kyocera, Apollo Printers (a Hewlett-Packard Company) and
the U.S. Navy. He has conceived and coordinated corporate nomination
packages resulting in local, national and international awards (and
visibility) for his clients. These honors range from Arthur Andersen
Global Best Practices to Harvard University’s Innovations
in American Government Technology.
Dex’s creativity further extends to the broadcast and publishing
realms. He is an accomplished copywriter and voice actor whose credits
include campaigns for Sheraton Hotels, Alamo Car Rental, Panasonic
and Manpower Temporary Services. He has also contributed business
profiles to the regional guide San Diego: Perfecting Paradise,
and is currently at work on his first collection of short fiction.
Dex earned Bachelor's degrees in Public Communication and Sociology
from the American University in Washington, D.C. He holds a certificate
in Meeting and Event Planning from San Diego State University.
